Rates:

According to a Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association (MMUA) article, Melrose had the cheapest electric rates in the State of Minnesota in 2005 & 2006.

Water

  • The City has five municipal wells and two one-million gallon water towers
  • The pumping capacity of the wells ranges from 800-1,200 gallons per minute. The average use per day is 2-2.5 million gallons of water.
  • The City's water meets federal and state standards for safe drinking water. Fluoride is added, sodium silicate is added for iron and manganese control, and chlorine is used for disinfections.

Ranges from $7.88 to $172.51 per month dependent upon the size of the water meter.

Wastewater

  • Class A Wastewater Treatment Facilities
  • Primary treatment consisting of bar screens, fine screens, flow equalization, grit removal, and primary settling
  • Secondary treatment consisting of trickling filters, aeration, settling tanks, and thickening of sludge
  • Advanced treatment consists of nitrification, phosphorous removal, disinfections, dechlorination, and effluent pumping and re-aeration
  • Solids processing consists of anaerobic digestion and land application of bio-solids

Residential:

Commodity Output Charge

$19.22 per 1,000 cubic feet of water used per month. The volume will be based on the average monthly water use during the January 15 through April 15 billing periods.
