Thanksgiving closure sign
Thanksgiving is still a week away, but it may be time to start thawing your
turkey. Butterball recommends thawing a turkey for 24 hours for every 4-5
pounds. In other words, it takes four days to thaw a 16-pound bird in the
fridge. #SafetyTips

Friday is the deadline for the Small Cities Grant surveys.
Please bring them to the city office. We need your input – we are applying for a grant from the state for home rehabilitation projects.
If you do not have a survey, and are interested, please stop at the city office for information.

Keep indoor air comfortable and healthy this winter! Use a humidifier to
add moisture, which can help ease allergies, protect furniture and make
the air feel warmer. Humid air feels warmer than dry air, so you can lower
your thermostat by a few degrees and still feel comfortable, saving you
approximately 1% to 3% on heating costs for each degree you lower it.

As nights get cooler, stay warm and safe. If you’re using electric blankets or
small space heaters, it’s essential to inspect the cords regularly to ensure
the wiring is not faulty or damaged. Always remember to unplug these
devices when not in use. #SafetyTips

Your Halloween decorations should be scary, not shocking! Toss anything with frayed or damaged wires to avoid electrical shock. Remember to use lights or inflatables marked “for outdoor use” if they’re going outside. Stay safe so you can enjoy the ultimate spooky night with those little ghosts and goblins. #SafetyTips

Reminder: West Central will pick up leaves this year as it has been done in the past. When putting the leaves into bags you will need to buy (Compost Bags) for the pickup. They will not pick up the regular lawn and leaf bags because they are not compost bags and will not degrade in the soil. They are available for purchase locally at: Kraemer Lumber and Melrose Hardware.
If you have any questions, please give West Central Sanitation a call at: 1-800-246-7630

City Park facilities and Sauk River Campground are now closed for the season.

City park facilities closed for the season sticker
As we close the parks for the season, we want to extend a special thanks for the partnerships which led to the amenities in our park system.
A grant from the LCCMR Environmental and Natural Resources Trust Fund and Minnesota DNR Get Out MORE initiative provided many of the upgrades to the campground and river shoreline, including our two new fishing stations with educational signage.
Freeport State Bank generously provided two new scoreboards for the baseball fields.
The Melrose Lions playground in the campground has been a great addition for the littles.
And thank you to the members of the Park Board for building the information center this summer.
See you next summer for another great year.
